Portland Indian Wedding Styled Shoot!

To celebrate the launch of Portland Indian Weddings, Kim (our photographer from Studio Varnika) put together a styled shoot to show off the talents and products of some of our recommended vendors!  We were so lucky to get a few minutes without rain for some portraits at the Washington Park Rose Garden.  Thanks to Sarah and Sultan for being our gorgeous models, and keep scrolling to read about our amazing vendors!

Did you notice the gorgeous Indian wedding garlands?  These were created by the extremely versatile and talented Annie from Floral Sunshine, and it’s a definite testament to her talent that it was her first time making these!  Our model groom Sultan has been to a lot of Indian and Pakistani weddings in Portland, and he told us that he’d never seen garlands of such high quality before.  Annie can make both traditional-style garlands as well as more modern ones with a Northwest flair– she’s happy to hear your ideas or come up with inspirations of her own!

Our bride’s mehndi was done by the amazing Sarah Walters of Sarahenna.  She’s based out of Seattle but is willing to travel, and we haven’t found anyone who can do such beautiful and authentic bridal henna in Portland.  Note the intricacy and peacock detail in the third photo below!  Sarah sources very high-quality henna direct from a grower, her pastes are chemical-free, and the stains are dark and last a long time.  She’s also an absolute sweetheart and a delight to work with, and we can’t recommend her highly enough!

Next up, Portland’s own Neha Patel from Masala Pop!  If you haven’t tried her organic, gluten-free, and non-GMO popcorn, you can find her delicious Indian-inspired snacks at several locations in Portland.  Neha’s popcorn bar is a tasty and affordable option for any wedding or event.  Don’t take our word for it– go taste some and find out for yourself!

We’ve been seeing Sugar Shapes’s amazing custom cookies featured in a ton of places lately, and knew that we had to get Debbie to make some henna-inspired cookies for us.  Her talent is incredible and basically she can make any sort of design you can imagine.  Plus, her cookies are delicious!  They’re perfect for wedding favors or as part of a dessert bar.

More floral artistry from Floral Sunshine!  Annie decided to do a few modern centerpiece arrangements for us, and we couldn’t stop admiring her orchid spray centerpiece!  She combined orchids with other flowers, and even created spray-painted gold sprigs as accents.  As we’d mentioned earlier, Annie is very versatile and will work to create whatever style of florals that you’d like.  I’m sure we’ll be seeing some beautiful garlands and mandap arrangements from her in the near future!

Dimitriy of Hayward’s Decorations is our event decorator, and he can provide a mandap, backdrops and fabric drapes, chair covers, columns, candelabras, crystal trees, vases, and even up-lighting!  He’s done over 30 Indian weddings in the Portland area and won a 2012 Wedding Wire “Bride’s Choice Award” for his consistentally stellar event setups.  Dimitriy, like all of us, is very focused on quality and making your event look great.  His chair covers don’t wrinkle, unlike the polyester ones rented out by many others.  These photos are just a small sampling of what Dimitriy can do.  We’ll have some real wedding photos showing his elaborate setups soon!

And last but not least, we would like to thank the Holiday Inn Airport for letting us use their space for this shoot.  The Holiday Inn Airport is one of the few venues in Portland that allows outside catering for ethnic weddings, and they can host a wedding or event for up to a thousand guests!  Juli, their coordinator, has done many events with Dimitriy and is wonderful to work with.  If you’re looking for a venue in Portland that allows outside catering, you don’t need to look any farther than the Holiday Inn Airport.  Tell Juli that you were referred by Portland Indian Weddings!
